Alexander “Lex” Morris
LEX is a uniquely gifted artist who calls his genre of music “D-licious Soul.” Honoring his native city of Detroit, a n d I t s r I c h contribution to the history and evolution o f S o u l a n d R & B music, LEX originates a fresh new sound that resonates his experiences of having
roots in the church, living the realities of life in the ghettos, and agonies stemming from the loss of his parents, all while traveling various roads through the music industry.
Born Joseph Alexander Morris to parents engulf in Christian ministry, his many stages of musical life have re-birthed LEX, beginning with the gospel group Peace, a five-member group that also featured LEX as well as one of the most adventurous and forward-thinking U.S. gospel artists today, Deitrick Haddon (currently signed to E 1 Records, formerly with Tyscot Records). From here, LEX worked with Keith Crouch’s Human Rhythm Productions (Brandy, Toni Braxton, CeCe Winans) doing background vocal work on countless projects, while honing his studio vocal production skills. LEX also happens to be the cousin of the Grammy winning, multi-platinum, singer-songwriter-pianist-performer John Legend, whose debut album sold 3 million copies, earned eight Grammy nominations, and won three of those eight Grammy nominations.
LEX then teamed up with production partner Ollie Harris to form The Collab Unit and immediately signed with management company Reality Entertainment Group, who in turn secured a production deal for the duo with L.L. Cool J’s Rock the Bells Entertainment (RTB). Creating the signature sound for each RTB artist, ranging from Hip- Hop to R&B, LEX stretched and expanded his creative abilities to incredible levels. All of this set the stage for the metamorphosis that transformed the studio guru into the spectacular artist, LEX.
A master at the art of storytelling and capturing emotion on recordings, LEX presents songs that are vivid expressions from his soul that are fueled by his creative energy. LEX also interprets songs written and/or produced by others, using his uncanny ability to discern and transform them with his own passion that in an instant become pure LEX. Staying true to his charismatic nature and the nostalgia from fans, LEX is a dynamic entertainer. With a strong capacity to connect with all audiences, LEX continues to mesmerize listeners
and place them into a zone. Not another neo-soul artist, LEX is artistic
kaleidoscope, a fusion of musical dimensions that create a sound making LEX a true renaissance artist. Without question, LEX is a rare commodity whose music is timeless.
As LEX has continued to write and produce songs for a plethora of today’s current artist, the timeless factor that his lyrics, and his ability to morph into genres of music from past to present took on a different meaning. In December of 2018, the amazing call of all calls came. On December 17, 2018 LEX received that call from one of the most ICONIC, and LEGENDARY singing groups of all time. This Grammy Lifetime Achievement recipient, Hollywood Walk of Fame Honoree, and Rock in Roll Hall Fame phone call came from Mr. Abdul “DUKE” Fakir, last surviving and founding member of Motown Records alumni, The FOUR TOPS. LEX was given the blessed honor to stand in the legacy position of Mr. Levi Stubbs as the LEAD SINGER of the FOUR TOPS. This dynamic has completely transformed his life into becoming one of the
most received and celebrated male singers of recent years. Even greater was the overwhelming acceptance of support from die hard Four Top purists and enthusiasts. Truly LEX’S hard work, and perseverance, and work ethic have paid off far beyond anything imaginable.
When asked about moving into this new realm of creativity, LEX responded “I have always been in the background, like a puppeteer, sculpting the sound for other phenomenal artists. Now I have an opportunity to be the actual artist, which is an exciting new experience. I intend to be more than just another male singer. I want to really make people feel the music, live the music, and be moved by the music. I want the music to be timeless. In 20 years, I want to be doing Vegas, hopefully having fans tell me how my music helped them through tough times or how it made them want to dance or how it set the mood when it was time for them to get their groove on. The music must speak and that is my focus.”
Speaking in tongues of poetry, church, the streets and music, LEX will articulate messages that his audience can always relate to, organically pulling them into a musical experience that will captivate them forever. That is just how LEX gets down! Lex just completed his fourteen-song album titled January a tribute to the legacy of his mother (January) and family. The three singles release from Angel Dove Global and 812 Music Group in association with England’s Izipho Records (Production Jam Deuce Productions/Try-Fecta Production) “Change Comin”, “Love’s Knockin”, and Pretty Girl all topped the UK RnB Soul Charts. “Love’s Knockin” was initially written for the Temptations but after a listing session Dr. Marlin McNichols said “LEX you may want to reconsider and put that record on your album” and it surely found that home on the January album. “Nothing You Can Do” is the current single released from the Neo Soul January Album>
